As part of the GAD Resource Center extension program “KAbalikat sa SAnayan at LIngap sa mga TAong nasa LaylaYan ng Lipunan tungo sa PaglagO” or dubbed as KASALI TAYO program, the first batch of trainees during the five-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on Inclusive Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (ICBDRRM) held on September 27 to October 1, 2022, were divided into three (3) teams and proceeded with community immersion at Bacoor City, Maragondon, and Rosario from November 16 to 18, 2022.
In partnership with the Provincial Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PPDAO) of the Province of Cavite and the Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP), the project will help the University in attaining its objective of prioritizing an inclusive disaster risk reduction management (IDRRM) in the Province of Cavite in the form of active participation of the vulnerable sectors, such as persons with special needs, LGBTQs, senior citizens, and solo parents in DRRM planning with the end goal of creating resilient communities and inclusive society, one barangay at a time.
The first group assigned at Bacoor City, Cavite was composed of five members namely Ms. Evelyn M. Reyes, Mr. Enrico H. Saulog, Ms. Jessie Rose G. Cruto, Mr. John Mark “Kylie” L. Barde, and Mr. Florian H. De Borja, and was guided by Ms. Eena Geslaine Barrun and Mr. Francis John P. Beltejar of CDP while the second group was designated to Rosario, Cavite, composed of six members: Mr. Manuel Cruz Jr., Ms. Krystel Joy Ague, Mr. Simplicio Rojales, Ms. Lorielyn Agustin, Mr. King Berma, and Ms. Maine Ugali and was led by Ms. Nathalie Malabato-Saguido and Ms. Mayfourth D. Luneta of CDP as well.
Meanwhile, the third group was deployed to Maragondon, Cavite having six members consisting of Ms. Lyn Andrea Escobar, Mr. Jhunnel Adrian Tan, Mr. Marc Darrel Alcazar, Ms. Lerissa Baes, Ms. Teresita Pascual, and Mr. Rolando Lagahit and headed by Ms. Jelyne Forneloza Gealone and Ms. Jocelyn Samson of CDP.
With the guidance of CDP, each team discussed the Republic Act 10121 also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Act Of 2010 or PDRRM Law, specifically on the process and implementation steps of CBDRRM, Preparedness, Prevention, and Mitigation, Response and Preparation for Rehabilitation and Recovery, and CBDRRM mechanism to the participants provided with workshops.
Some of the activities carried out by the teams were Community Risk Assessment (CRA) tool in which participants created tools to serve as notices, warnings, and guides to residents during a disaster; the local disaster timeline, where participants recorded the disaster they experienced in different years and compare the response method to it; Aling Nena’s store, a simulation activity where participants must purchase equipment and machines that will be used during a disaster; and Doctor Kwak-kwak wherein a group member had to entangle their teammates, while the other group had to attempt to fix it. These exercises are meant to give the participants a realistic view of how to react and behave before, during, and after a disaster. (GCRSison)
